Bizarre Wedding News - June 30, 2020

by Scott Johnson

Welcome back to the wackiest wedding news from around the world. In a time where most news feels dark and upsetting, we have enjoyed soaking up any and all of the weirdness we can find when it comes to our wedding industry. Sometimes fun, often strange, occasionally emotional, but always Bizarre, it’s time to take a look at a few updates from recent weeks! This week we go to the newly-omnipresent TikTok, Disney dresses and perhaps the return of one of the greatest wedding movies of all time.

Attention all Disney fans, particularly those who have an affinity for the iconic Princesses. Allure Bridals is offering up “16 Gowns inspired by nine Disney princesses, including Arial, Tiana, Cinderella and Snow White.” While they may be a little bit spendier than your average wedding dress (they range $1,200 to $2,600, but you may be perfectly fine with that) they are undeniably reminiscent of their respective princesses. Best part is, they range from size 0 to 30, and are available in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

We particularly love the Ariel one that “is fittingly a mermaid-style gown. The dress also has a sweetheart neckline that mimics the shape of Ariel’s seashell top.” Which one is your favorite, and would you consider wearing one of these for your own wedding? Let us know below!

Whether you love it or hate it, TikTok has arrived and it ain’t going anywhere. The video service already has millions upon millions of viewers, and plenty of content to keep them satiated. Coming from BuzzFeed is an article that has dived into a new trend from the platform, the “Wedding Dress Challenge.”

As Liz Richardson writes, “You may have already seen hilarious people pranking their S.O’s on TikTok, but in the ‘Wedding Dress Challenge,’ former brides are surprising their spouses by putting on their old wedding dresses and capturing their reactions on video.” By golly that is one of the most fabulous ideas we have heard of in a long time, and a perfectly wholesome thing to submit your emotions to. Be sure to check out the link for Richardson’s 13 favorites, and then explore more on your own by exploring the hashtag!

Remember back in the mid-aughts when movies like 40 Year Old Version, Superbad and other gross-out comedies vied for public affection? One of the most iconic “wedding” movies emerged during this time, and while certain aspects of it have not aged so greatly, Wedding Crashers has had a lasting reputation for us wedding lovers. How can we forget Owen Wilson’s sage advice to Rachel McAdams before she gives her sister’s toast? Vince Vaughn getting real with a priest over breakfast? Or what about Bradley Cooper as the biggest flaming d-bag and yet 15 years later we adore him?

Well good news, friends, because while Will “Mom, meatloaf!” Ferrell and McAdams have been promoting their latest Netflix movie (which is a whole conversation in itself) they have dropped hints that there may be a followup in the works. Alas, fans of the movie will know those two never shared a scene together, but the thoughts of more wedding madness has us giddy with excitement!
