How did you guys meet?: We met at Iowa State University in the fall of 2010. They lived in the same co-ed Honors Program house, and quickly became best friends. We didn't begin dating until our last semester in the spring of 2014.
Tell us about the proposal!: Kaitlin knew the proposal was coming, so I decided to make her "work" for it. We started at Figure Brewing (our favorite Seattle brewery) where we had flights of beer. Each drink in the flight revealed an important milestone in our life together which subsequently helped answer clues in a crossword puzzle. Solving the crossword puzzle would reveal a numeric code which was used to unlock a backpack at Gas Works Park. At the park, inside the bag, was a personalized Rubik's cube - each face of the cube had different photos of us. When solved the cube would open up like a box and that's where the ring was. So once I solved it, I opened it up, got down on one knee and proposed. It was a cold, rainy night at Gas Works but it was unforgettable! We then went back to our apartment where our friends surprised us with an engagement party.
(Context: when I had a crush on Kaitlin in college I gave her a personalized Rubik's cube for her birthday. Each face had secret notes from me hidden inside it that she would open every birthday. She really loved that gift)
Why did you choose your venue?: 1) One of the few indoor-outdoor spaces in Seattle
2) The school house aspect really spoke to us considering how much academia has played a vital role in our relationship and our lives.
3) It has so much charm. We like places that have character and can speak for themselves rather than hinging on decor.
What are you most excited to see in the video?: *Everybody dressed up in their Indian Clothes
*South Indian Ceremony in the morning and everybody's reactions
*Western Ceremony
*Cocktail hour
*Group Dance at the reception
When and where's the honeymoon?!?!: We're not really having a honeymoon. After the wedding we're going to California for a few days to spend some quality time with family and family friends.
When my parents immigrated from India they settled in California for 30+ years so we have a huge, tightly knit community there.
