Best Weddings in Movies Part 1

by Scott Johnson

Welcome back everyone. We tried our best to skirt around the subject as much as possible, but it seems as though the Coronavirus (or COVID-19) is here to stay for the time being. That means kids are not in school, families have lost their jobs, and for the foreseeable future weddings are going to be either postponed or very intimate gatherings. We know many of you are at home, struggling to find ways to entertain yourselves and to stay positive. It is by no means an easy time, and we do not want to make too much light of the matter.

Fortunately, we have a platform to share positivity, good ideas, and most importantly: weddings and love. We are in no way slowing down in bringing you fun wedding news and reminders of a more happy time.

So to spice things up, we are going to try and scratch all of those itches at once. With a countdown of the Best Weddings in Movies, we are diving into some truly memorable moments from movie history. We love movies here at Best Made Videos® and could talk about them endlessly. Hopefully there’s one amongst the following you haven’t seen, perhaps even a couple.

Do be warned, there are spoilers ahead!

10. The 40-Year-Old-Virgin

While the title isn’t exactly the most appropriate, or the whole movie in general, those looking for a raunchy, gut-busting comedy need look no further. Arriving a few short months after the debut of the American version of The Office, it was a star-making role for Steve Carell who we were only just discovering.

Full of gross, sexual humor that crackles with some hilariously bitter truths (thanks to Judd Apatow’s traditionally realistic writing), there are also appearances from Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Jane Lynch, and more. Without spoiling too much, the film culminates in a zany, wonderful wedding set to Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In that is entirely unforgettable (much like the rest of the movie!)

If it wasn’t apparent before, this movie is definitely R-rated. So no kids!

9. Shrek

Anybody of all ages can enjoy Shrek, and if any of you disagree, then you might very well be the green ogre. Shrek arrived on the scene in 2001, and the world has not been quite the same since. Perhaps the funniest animated film to have arrived on the scene up until that point, it boasts an incredible cast of voice actors including Mike Meyers, Cameron Diaz, John Lithgow, and the stupendous Eddie Murphy as Donkey. If only you watch the Donkey scenes, you will find plenty to laugh about, but the rest of the movie is, well, a masterpiece. It won Best Animated film at the Oscars, and was even nominated for its screenplay!

The best thing about Shrek, along with another film on our list, is that the climactic wedding is not the deserved one, though it is entirely memorable all the same. For those with kids who need a laugh, or simply those who need a laugh: look no further than Shrek if you want to be reminded that true love exists, and that fairy tales can be as much for adults as anyone else.

8. The Grand Budapest Hotel

Wes Anderson already has another movie coming out this year, The French Dispatch, so what better way to prepare than to take a look at his, well, grandest film yet. Though it has a cast as long as a Star Wars crawl, the wedding featured is between Zero (Tony Ravoli, who you will recognize from the most recent Spiderman movies) and Agatha (the splendid Saoirse Ronan) in utterly breathtaking fashion.

Set on a high peak, overlooking the fictional Zubrowkan mountains. Officiated by the irresistibly charming Ralph Fiennes, it is definitely the prettiest wedding on our list! Be sure to check back and see which other Anderson movie finds its way onto our list!

7. Wedding Crashers

There are a lot of weddings in Wedding Crashers, so much so that it is probably impossible to keep count. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn star as John and Jeremy, two dudes who spend their off-hours crashing weddings and invading the families at them. It should be said that this movie’s humor has not aged perfectly well, there is a lot of crass, politically-incorrect humor that certainly goes with its time period (released the same year as 40-Year-Old-Virgin), but there are also moments of real truth, like Wilson’s helpful advice to Rachel McAdams before she gives her toast. Oh, and how could we forget about the awfully douchey performance from Bradley Cooper, who for a long time really had us convinced he was that big of a jerk!

Again, no kids on this one!

6. The Return of the King

Spoilers ahead, though we would be very surprised that you are unaware about the conclusion to the immense Lord of the Rings trilogy (either in film or book version). This one is definitely going to be the hardest to get to, though it might make you cry the hardest. Coming right near the end of nearly 11-ish hours of movies (if you had watched the extended cuts of both Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers) is a flash of the wedding for Sam and Rosie.

After all of his trials, and making sure Frodo wasn’t nearly as idiotic as he would have been on his own, Sam finally found his way back to the Shire and worked up the courage to speak to Rosie. As he says on Mount Doom, at the “end of all things,” if he ever was to marry someone, “it would’ve been her.” And boy, what a wonderful little moment of love and happiness after so much walking and talking!
