Whew, what a time to be alive here in 2020. The presidential primaries are in full swing, there’s been quite the shortage on hand sanitizer, and the whole world seems like it is gearing up for the end-times. As such, Bizarre Wedding News may not seem so “bizarre” for the time being until things settle down, but nevertheless we will continue to share fun, weird and helpful stories from around the world. This week we come to you with wedding costs for 2020, the coronavirus (regrettably) and to round it all off: llamas! Let’s get to it!

From Fox News comes an article that might make you catch your breath. Zoya Gervis takes a look into the “Average American’s Dream Wedding,” and more importantly: how much it costs. After polling 2,000 Americans on what they want for their wedding, it came out that the average cost was “$42,310.48.” Wowza, depending on your job that looks like an annual salary, all for one day.

Gervis covers a number of other topics, such as the average priority level of something like a cake versus having a best man’s speech. Be sure to check it out!

I know, it’s scary to think about the Coronavirus, but with everything from concerts to movie premieres being delayed due to it, weddings are definitely on the list of “public gatherings” that so many government officials urge us not to participate in. But weddings need to happen, more so than any other public gathering, so USA Today came out with an article that discusses how to plan one during a pandemic.

Alas, there isn’t exactly a set rulebook for how these things should proceed. Joshua Bote goes over some of the more FAQs, such as “Should I invite people from affected areas?” And the answer isn’t so easy, “This may be an instance when postponing a wedding is necessary,” however, “Given the rate of community spread, the coronavirus probably will be everywhere soon.” So while places like “China, Iran and Washington state” are currently the worst hit areas, there are other places that could be far worse. Either way, we hope that any of you planning on weddings this year have as much love and celebration as you can.

Oh, Reddit. How you always manage to get the funniest stories. What started half-a-decade ago as a running joke, ended up with an actual llama at an actual wedding. On a road trip five years ago, Mendl (the brother) had grown tired of “the nonstop talk between three teenage girls,” who had been discussing Riva’s (the sister) wedding, which wasn’t a certainty as she hadn’t been dating anyone at the time. He decided to blurt out, with the hope of getting a “good reaction out of her,” that he would bring a llama to his sister’s wedding if she ever did. Going about as well as you would expect, she was obviously a little peeved…but ”accepted the idea” because she thought it was a joke. Well, you know what they say about assumptions…

They make llamas appear at weddings. Which is exactly what happened when Riva got married. Check out the article for even more funny details about the llama invasion!
