Bizarre Wedding News - April 3, 2020

by Scott Johnson

The world is a crazy place right now; there is no way around it. As more states shut down (Washington’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy order just got extended, too) more weddings are being cancelled. Luckily, some are still taking place, though not at the scale they surely would have been at. Elopements at some courthouses are also happening, so long as social-distancing guidelines are met, and people are even holding webcam weddings. What never ceases to stop, though, is the ever weird and wacky news that comes out of the wedding industry. So while the majority of the stories moving forward will likely have some involvement with COVID-19, they will be just as weird as always!

One of the first major weddings of this coronavirus-era, Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell had been playing for the better part of a year. Set to be at the Australia Zoo, they ultimately decided to cut the majority of the guest list. The guest list only included Terri and Robert Irwin, and Steve’s best friend, Wes Mannion. Bindi had the perfect summation of why they made the decision to follow through as they had, “‘Look, we desperately want to get married, and no matter what the future holds, at least we’ll be husband and wife. We can take on the world together.’”

If that isn’t the most hopeful and great thing! Be sure to check out the Instagram photos in the article, they are wonderful.

One would think that as soon as your wedding photos become available, you would dig through them and relive your happiest day. Catherine Zeta-Jones, for a whole lot of other reasons as well, is not your normal person. Two decades after their wedding, and she is finally getting a chance to look at them the first time. While she had “looked at the proofs and that was it,” she had “never made an album.” For whatever reason, her photographer got in touch recently and she looked at them.

Amy Mackelden, the author of the article, quotes from BBC that “photos from the private affair were reportedly sold in a $1.25 million exclusive deal with OK! Magazine.” Perhaps there was some bitterness about that? What do you think of the photos?

News 4 JAX out of Florida must have known we were looking for a story, as this even fits under their “Weird News” tag. They tell the story of Amy Simonson and Dan Stuglik’s hilarious improvisation for their wedding day. Instead of inviting their family and friends, they sought out a large amount of cardboard and the Menasha Packaging Co. delivered. Sending over 100 cardboard cutouts to “pose as stand-ins,” Amy and Dan had a packed house so that, according to Dan, “‘Amy wouldn’t walk down the aisle to an empty church.’”

Dan, you get the Husband of the Year award!
