Well, the world certainly does not have any shortage of surprises as we cross into the second half of 2020. We try to stray away from the heavier side of things, hoping to use this platform as a means of spreading warmth, love and happiness. Alas, not all news is necessarily upbeat, but it is at least always bizarre in the wedding world. Which is why this industry is just so much fun to be a part of. For instance, this week we are taking a look at superstitions, goblins and bandits, so buckle up and enjoy the ride.
Let’s get this nastiest out of the way first. In a time where there is already so much heartbreak and grief, one poor excuse of a wedding videographer is refusing to refund a groom who lost his fiance in a car crash back in February. Not only is he not giving back the money (it was technically non-refundable,) he said he would allow the groom to retain his services for his “next wedding.”
Oh, but there’s more. This cruel person then posted a mocking status on social media after the groom’s story hit the media saying he hopes “you sob and cry all day for what would have been your wedding day. Sorry, not sorry.” Yeah, this guy is a real pile of manure. But, even then, manure is useful.
Since then, the videographer has seen a number of lawsuits grow against him, so at least there’s some justice in the world!
Coming from Yahoo! Sports of all places, they break down some of the most common wedding traditions. According to their video, the whole “not seeing each other before the ceremony,” was originally treated as a means of preventing either of the bride or groom “from bolting from arranged marriages.” Now we have first looks that many opt for instead of keeping the dress a secret.
The bulk of the superstitions, though, really do fall into the spiritual realm. From carrying the bride over the threshold, to ringing bells and wearing veils, the evil spirits are still kept far from weddings these days. And, in these times, we really should bring out the bells more.
