2019 is officially over, but that is not going to stop us from going back and sharing some of our summer weddings with you! A trip to a venue so close to home (in both its location and in meaning) and almost on the anniversary of our founder’s wedding here just three years earlier was a total trip down memory lane. But this time, we were here for the Dixon Wedding, which saw the union of Ian and Lindsay. Warm weather, clear views of the skyline, and two people eager to be hitched: let’s take a look at their big day!
We joined up with the soon-to-be newlyweds in the afternoon on August 4th. Ian and Lindsay were getting all dressed up down the highway from Seattle. The spirits were bubbling over, as hair was done up, dresses and suits were donned, and the lovely colors of the ladies dresses reminded us of the water of the Sound.
The Dixons opted for our drone package, and boy did they ever luck out with the weather. The rich blue skies of Seattle were clear as can be with the drone capturing the water, the city and everything in beautiful clarity. Once everyone was ready, it was time to head up to the restaurant. There was some time for photos out along with waterfront, but before we knew it, it was time to get hitched!
The officiant greeted everyone, including the restaurant patrons witnessing the event from up above, and soon there were laughs, smiles, and a near ring-miss from the officiant who was only mere inches from the deep water below. They made it through, and Ian was able to place the ring on Lindsay’s finger: they were married!
More photos were to follow, some with just the newlyweds and the rest with the group. The sun was setting beyond the hills past the restaurant, and it threw out the most dazzling golden hour light. It was a privilege to get such wonderful effects for these newlyweds, especially when you have the city lighting up beyond the water in the background.
The bar was then opened for the guests to start celebrating, and appetizers were ready soon after. A map allowed guests to mark where they came from in the US while they waiting for the newlyweds to make their way back. Drinks and food were served, and the celebrating really got under way. As the light dimmed, the summer colors really came out in the sky. Purples, oranges, pinks and everything in between illuminated the sky, while the party spilled out onto the deck.
Like all wedding days, this one had to come to an end, too. Once the dances were finished, feet were tired, and a rousing rendition of Piano Man had been sung, the day wound to a cheerful close as the newlyweds embarked on a new adventure together!

Lindsay and Ian’s story in their own words:
How did you guys meet?
There’s a video for this! This video occurred long before we got engaged, but it fulfills the premise as well as it could.
If you would rather read it, it starts with Desert Bus 8. This was Lindsay’s first time watching Desert Bus, and she noticed Ian, thought he was nice, and followed him on Twitter. Eventually he followed her back as they replied to each other’s tweets.In May 2015 both Lindsay and Ian bought tickets to go to PAX Prime, a videogame convention in Seattle and were looking for hotel roommates. Since they couldn’t find a room with a reasonable price with two beds, the plans fell through. Ian was also deployed to Afghanistan in June of that year, making him miss PAX Prime.With Ian being away, the Hosks (now mutual friends of theirs) started making a care package to send to Ian, and Lindsay included a scarf she had purchased but did not want. Conversations started in Twitter DMs about Seattle, how Ian was moving there soon, etc…which eventually became constant Facebook messaging over the next two months.In November 2015, they finally met in Penn Station about two weeks after Ian returned from his deployment. The two ended up doing a draft of Battle of Zendikar, hanging out, watching the Desert Bus tech test, and the beginning of Desert Bus 9.Although they did not officially start dating until April 2016, they also visited PAX South together in January of that year. Ian moved to the Seattle area in February 2016, Lindsay in August 2016, and the rest is history!
Tell us about the proposal!
Ian was moving cross country from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA to Washington DC with the Army in summer 2018. Lindsay accompanied him in the drive across the US from one Washington to another. We took a bit of a detour from the direct route to visit family of hers up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in/around Marquette (where Lindsay attended college and spent summers growing up). She had talked a big game about the town and sights and Ian figured it would be the best place to add some more memories to the town for her. One of the days allowed us to explore around and hike up a mountain (Sugarloaf Mountain) that overlooks the town and Lake Superior. Ian took some sneaky ‘hiking up’ with the ring that Lindsay couldn’t see behind her (https://twitter.com/dixonij/status/1017219649350586368?s=19). When they got to the top, Ian asked a random stranger to take some pics of them at the top overlooking the town. When he handed the camera off to the stranger, he said “just keep shooting…” and he proposed up at the top. Why did you choose your venue?
We both love Seattle and wanted it to be on the water. Salty’s was the spot we both liked the most.
