Favorite Outdoor Weddings of 2019 - Part 4

by Scott Johnson

You didn’t think we were already done with our Favorite Outdoor Weddings of 2019 countdown, did you? In a time where the outdoors might seem rather unsafe and we are all more-or-less mandated to stay indoors as much as possible, there is little else our minds can focus on other than last year’s weddings. In the second to last of this first series of Favorites, we are going to explore lush wineries, rustic farms, and island getaways. That sound nice? We like to think so! Let’s dive in.

Gayle - Manson Wedding - Novelty Hill / Januik Winery

For a lot of people, wine and weddings go hand in hand. So, why not get hitched where it all comes together? Novelty Hill / Januik Winery makes quite the list of supreme wines, and the Gayle-Manson wedding was already sampling some of its finest in the early hours of the day. Bubbly? You got it!

Wineries also feature pleasant architecture, open spaces for relaxing, and in the case of Novelty Hill, plenty of nature to go get pictures in. The first look was oh-so romantic as Laura and Jeff got all cutesy out in the fields surrounding the winery. The gray, cement structure of the winery itself proved to be a unique backdrop for photos as well, especially with the ladies deep red dresses. But the true wonder is the ceremony space with the vibrant orange walls surrounding the courtyard. Jeff and Laura eagerly waited for the go-ahead to kiss in order to become husband and wife.

Conway Wedding - Craven Farm

Next up is a return to one of our favorite places to get pumpkins and also to see weddings, of course: Craven Farm. We were still a little ways out of pumpkin season (the Conways got married in mid-July) but just from the drone shots alone you can tell this place is immeasurably idyllic. The weather was blissful and the skies looked like a painting. Ample amounts of space and places to hang out while everyone was getting ready made the day breeze by. The first look was remarkable, with light breaking through the branches and leaves of the greenery.

The first look and bridal party photos took us all over the farm. We could have spent a whole week just taking photos there, and would highly recommend it, particularly if you want some amazing backdrops. Once it was time for the ceremony, our breaths were taken away with the wide fields extending beyond the altar. It was simply the best, and even more so when Diane and Shea kissed. The later golden-hour shots are amongst some of our favorites ever!

Fakkema Wedding - Rosario Resort

After wineries and farms, it is time for an “island” getaway. Rosario Resort on Orcas Island (the largest of the many San Juans) almost feels like it’s in another world. If you have never had the chance to get up to this region of Washington, treat yourself to a relaxing weekend away after this whole ordeal is over with. The first look, down by the waterfront, was splendid, but then we went up into the hills for more soaring shots. There aren’t really any highways for miles, so the sounds of wind blowing and birds calling are likely the only noises you will hear. The bridal party joined in later on and got up to some rather hilarious shenanigans.

If there was a doubt that the ceremony would be nothing short of amazing, it was blown out of the water with the final results of the ceremony space. Peering out across the sound, with the islands curling around the horizon, it really felt like we were hundreds of miles from civilization. The excited guests waited for the bride and groom to make their way down the aisle. Soon enough we had a husband and wife. The reception, held partially in the open air with live music, continued to prove that the Fakkemas' big outdoor wedding needs to be on this list.

Zeigler Wedding - Maroni Meadows

Next up is a return to Snohomish, this time for Maroni Meadows. The Zeiglers got married right after the change from Summer to Fall and if you happen to recognize the bride from the Mackie wedding, it means you have been paying attention! Tucked out in the woods, this is also another great example of finding solace even close to civilization. The creative and fun interiors made everything feel cozy while the bridal party got dressed. The first look out by the volleyball court seemed like a tropical resort rather than a rustic setting. Excitement was bubbling over for John, who turned to greet his bride with a beaming smile.

Everyone arrived and were ready to see a wedding. The bridal party stood underneath the gazebo, lit by flickering lanterns, while the bride and groom stood exposed to the elements. Once they were married, the party continued outdoors until the lights dimmed away, resulting in what felt like one of those hot summer nights you never want to end.

Sherry Wedding - Private Residence

Last up for this week is a trip to Ravensdale, which for those who do not know is just south of Maple Valley. Like many of the other weddings we have seen, this one was in the middle of the forest for some peace and quiet. The drinking started early, with shots and beers to warm the spirits. Not quite summer yet, but still in peak wedding season, the weather was predictably great. The morning flew by, especially once everyone started taking photos. Set up on a stage in a clearing enclosed with trees, the altar was ready to see some newlyweds.

After the kiss, it was time to party away the rest of the day. Dancing on tables, eating cupcakes and enjoying a blissful day, it was everything that a wedding should be and more.
