Welcome everyone it’s time to get happy and excited with bizarre wedding news! This week won’t have nearly as many twists as everything else going on in pop culture, but hopefully it’s enough to keep you satiated until the final Game of Thrones episode or new Spider-Man movie with potential villains, throwbacks and more!

Crowdfunding has become quite popular in recent days. Whether it is for a dream come true, helping out with medical costs or, yes, by trying to get funds to build that Mexico wall…you can assist hundreds of people with your wallet. So it would make sense that people are now using it for their weddings…with some unexpected consequences.
A little while ago, a British couple discovered they were well short of their desired budget for their big wedding. After saving for over a year, they still needed $5,800. So they made a GoFundMe page and started asking for donations instead of presents. In three weeks, they put a decent dent in their goal…but then they got publicized by local media which sent things into a tailspin resulting in online criticisms and backlash. But you’ll have to check the article to see what really happens!
Some celebrity weddings just don’t seem to die down, and this week we’re back focusing on the Cyrus/Hemsworth event back in December! We have two stories about the wedding to go over, so let’s start with the attire. Knowing Miley, we know she isn’t the most conventional person, so it would make sense that her original wedding did not feature a Vivienne Westwood gown and all that other fanciness. Rather, she wanted some of life’s simple pleasures: to wear a hoodie and leggings down the aisle, and to grub on vegan chicken and dumplings. Alas, they opted for the fancy route and I think they chose quite nicely!
Next up: the name! When it comes to celebrity weddings, for the sake of recognizability or otherwise, most celebs don’t take the name of their spouse. Miley Cyrus, however, is now Miley Ray Hemsworth. Hubby Liam Hemsworth explained in an interview that Miley came up with the idea on her own, and suggested it to Liam before their wedding. Check out the article for some more married-life updates!
Katie Couric had quite the breaking news story back in February: her daughter Ellie Monahan got engaged! The 27-year-old is now engaged to Mark, and the proposal even comes with some sentimentality. When Mark dropped to the knee, he used the ring that Ellie’s late father had used to propose to Katie back in the 90s. Obviously very excited, Katie’s Instagram post is mostly composed of a dozen “OMGs.” We can’t wait for the wedding!
This next article is going to call for some judgement on your part, so buckle in! We all know weddings cost a pretty penny. Especially the venues. And especially for weddings. One guy in Australia recognized that venues up the charge for an event if it is indeed a wedding. So, he simply told venues and caterers that he was having a “party.” Not the most grave lie to be told before a wedding, but a lie nonetheless.
The first mistake this guy made was lying, his second mistake was telling all of this to his ex-girlfriend, who had texted him to check on the updates for his big day. What did she do with this information? She screenshotted the texts and posted them to Facebook. Like with anything hitting the internet that causes even the most minor controversy, people voiced their angry opinions. The article does not give any updates on if the guy got to go through with his “party,” but we have to imagine all of his vendors were none too pleased.
