Favorite Indoor Weddings of 2019 - Part 2

by Scott Johnson

It would appear that the heat is around the corner. Not in the Al Pacino and Robert De Niro sense, of course, but rather some good hot days. Alas, it is weeks like this that would typically have us super excited to see some marriage, but as Washington State would have it, we are still on pause with the reopening phases. This has us cooped up and continuing our dive back through our Favorite Indoor Weddings of 2019. If you missed part one, do yourself a favor and check it out here. If you are ready and willing, let’s keep going!

Machado Wedding - St. Alphonsus / Bell Harbor International Conference Center

We are coming up on almost a year for this wedding. Near the end of August last year, we joined up with the Machados. It was a twofer for events, first stop was St. Alphonsus church for the wedding proper, and then Bell Harbor Conference center for the reception. Located by Woodland Park Zoo (boy, do we miss the zoo) the Catholic church is a grand space to get married in. The gigantic organ, stained glass windows, and echoing chamber all come together for quite the scene. In front of their loved ones, and God, Molly and Melroy got hitched. When people think “indoor” wedding, they probably automatically jump to a church...but hey, if you are religious and want a great space, there is no wrongdoing if you pick one!

For what it’s worth, Bell Harbor is a great place to get married as well, indoor or out. The rest of the day was spent there, overlooking the water, enjoying the blissful new titles of husband and wife.

Luu - Huynh Wedding - The Edgewater Hotel

Speaking of waterfronts and close anniversaries...what about the iconic Edgewater Hotel? Yes, the Beatles stayed here on their visit, we all know the story, but aside from its legendary history it is also just a stellar place to get married. We got going with Anna and Raymond on August 10, spending a gorgeous day down on the also-iconic waterfront. They were all smiles from the get-go, dancing outside the hotel and on the pier. The breathtaking views of Puget Sound could be enjoyed both indoor and out. Which is exactly what we did leading up to the ceremony, with the bridal party joining us outside in the sun.

If there was a doubt that the ceremony space wouldn’t have big bay windows that looked out into the Sound, you must not have thought this was the Edgewater. The upstairs space, filled to the brim with Anna and Raymond’s loved ones, was elegant but also intimate. With a jaw-dropping view to boot, we weren’t so eager for the day to end!

Trotter Wedding - St. JudeJM Cellars

Shifting gears a bit from our first two, we made our way to one of Washington’s great wine countries. Just a short distance outside of Seattle, you can taste all of the wines that your heart desires. You can also get married at just about any of them, or simply have your reception there, which is exactly what the Trotters did. Our day with Megan and Miles was much like our day with the Machados. A morning of taking photos, looking cute and getting married in a church led the way for a reception that would rock your socks off.

But first, it was the wedding ceremony at St. Judes. The modest church, with its big windows that open up to greenery and wide nave was where Miles and Megan landed on when deciding their venue. With it being so close to JM, it seemed perfect. Plus, the leaves were already in the process of changing to their new fall coats, so everything looked just magical. The remainder of the day spent at JM was a blast, especially the send off!

Lebel Wedding - St. Alphonsus

Say, this place seems pretty familiar. With a return trip to Saint Alphonsus (or rather prior to the Machado wedding) we got to see Diahann and Edwin get married in royal fashion. Musicians lined the balcony, music soared in our ears, and it was as fitting a Catholic wedding as we had seen for a long time. St. Alphonsus, all done up again with lovely little touches of decoration here and there. The morning was casual and breezy while everyone got dressed up. The sky was unsurprisingly overcast heading into memorial day weekend, but the smiles were all visible.

Once photos were snapped, we made our way to the church with its aforementioned stained glass windows. Filling the pews, their loved ones were brought in to a serenading flute. It was a peaceful, humbling experience to witness another wedding here in the presence of god. After the ceremony, it was time to party and dance the day away. Cake, beer and other tasty treats were served, and the newlyweds had more than enough fun with their first cake-cutting.

Abebefe Wedding - Block 41 / Seattle Waterfront Marriott

What more could be said about the Abebefe Wedding that we already haven’t? This monumental two-day celebration rests firmly in one of the coolest experiences we have had the chance to film. Their day, which was almost a decade in the making, resulted in what can only be described as an extravaganza. Their first day was spent celebrating a traditional Nigerian ceremony, which was a sight to behold. Tons of food, dancing, celebrating and an awesome officiant/emcees had us wondering just what day two would bring. The first day was hosted at Block 41, which was more than enough space to fit just about everyone.

Their second day was a little more standard, at least in our books, with Ayo and Liz getting hitched at the Seattle Marriott Waterfront. Ready to party even more on the second day, this one was definitely a little less intricate but all the more elegant and personal. After two whole days of celebrating, we had to wonder if there was any more the next day or weekend! Seriously, if you have some time, check this wedding out!
